A year for Investment

In addition to celebrating 75 years since our company was founded, this year we have also made a series of investments to improve our processes considerably, for the benefit of all of our clients, as well as the environment.

Read more about the investments we made over the last year or so and the improvements that have come about as a result:

  • AUTOMATIC BOWL FEED FOR GRINDING
Precision grinding is key to Solartron’s products, ensuring high performance and a long life. The automatic bowl feed means higher throughput which helps to reduce lead times and enables fast response when products are needed quickly.

  • VACUUM FURNACE

Correct heat treatment  of our component parts is essential and is a core competence for Solartron. Investing over £120k in a new vacuum furnace with a high end controller in 2021 secured this process going forward, to ensure we could continue to make and develop the very best sensors in the future.

  • SINGLE SPINDLE HONING MACHINE

Accurate honing is key to the operation of our probes and transducers. Installed in 2020, this new honing machine allows more flexibility in our bearing and sensor designs for the future. It also means that some external honing operations can be brought inside the factory, helping response and lead times.

  • SWISS NANO LATHE

Although this machine was purchased in 2018, in 2021 it has been used more and more to produce the tiny pins and other components that are used in our mini probes, micro flexures and 3 mm diameter probes.

  • STAR CNC LATHE

In 2019 we also invested in a high end STAR lathe which is critical for manufacturing our class leading bearings.
