As technology plays such a vital role in every aspect of our lives, quality control in developing and producing that technology is more important than ever.  This May, World Metrology Day and Control – an international trade fair for quality assurance in Stuttgart, Germany – will bring together and celebrate the most advanced developments in the industry. At Solartron Metrology, we are proud to be a part of this exciting industry.

Controlling quality

Billed as ‘the world’s leading trade fair for quality assurance’, Control brings together suppliers of QA-related technologies, products, systems and solutions to the production and test engineering fields.

Contactless measuring technology has special billing at this year’s event (taking place in Stuttgart, Germany from the 9th to the 12th May), with a dedicated exhibition to share the latest innovations in creating wider measuring ranges and new applications for the technology.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation will also be hosting a ‘technology park’ to highlight the development of quality control over the last decade and how they see it going forward into the future.  Another technology park will feature The Fraunhofer Vision Alliance presenting ideas about image processing for use in production management.

Topics for talks and lectures during the event cover a broad range of areas including devices and machines for non-destructive testing, material testing apparatus and software for computer aided quality assurance. Many companies will be presenting their latest metrological innovations, including Solartron, who will be showing their latest miniature sensors including the unique 3mm diameter measuring probe, new PLC interfaces and multichannel wireless handtools.

World Metrology Day – 20th May 2017

This annual event is a celebration of the signing of the Metre Convention by representatives of seventeen countries on 20th May 1875.  The Convention’s aim was worldwide uniformity of measurement to allow for global collaboration in the science of measurement and all its industrial, commercial and societal applications.

Measurement for transport is this year’s theme, chosen for the huge part that transport, including aerospace and automotive, plays in modern life. With such a strong focus on safety, efficiency and environmental concerns in the transport arena, accurate measurements are vital.

Last year, countries celebrated World Metrology Day by opening up laboratories for tours, holding conferences and seminars and some countries, including Ireland and the Netherlands, created special videos celebrating achievements in metrology. To demonstrate what the world would be like without metrology the Dutch Metrology Institute released an animation.

Events like these highlight the importance of metrology to the world we live in, as well as bringing together industry leaders to drive the technology even further forward. Likewise, Solartron Metrology is dedicated to providing the best metrology equipment for the industries we serve and constantly strives to produce solutions that solve our clients’ problems.
